Beyond Returns: How Catholics Can Invest Without Compromising Their Morals

Do you ever hear news about the stock market or see the numbers go up and down on a daily basis and wonder what it's all for? Is it even real?

I love markets, but when we get to bland and only talk about indexes, interest rates, oil prices etc. blah blah, we forget what actually makes up the stock market.

And that's companies. It's people. Its company products and policies that have a huge influence on the world we live in. As Catholics, we have a framework to look at investing on a deeper level.

Are these companies actually doing good in the world? Is their product harmful? Do their company policies have a negative impact on society?

Mensuram Bonam, a Vatican document, says no investment can ever be considered morally neutral. Either God’s kingdom is being advanced by the assets being deployed or its being neglected and undermined

Catholic values investing is important. Christians should look beyond the stock price and potential profit when evaluating an investment. But we don't need to ignore potential performance either. We should be looking for quality investments that will grow over time without sacrificing our morality.
